In this article you will find more about our:
Our eDNA kits and tests provide an unrivalled picture of a site’s biodiversity, no matter how hard-to-detect. It's currently the most accurate and scalable solution for site-level biodiversity insights. The biggest benefits are:
Find hard to detect species
Discover rare, elusive and cryptic species, even if you can’t see them.
Collect more data with fewer samples
Take samples in just 10 min and identify hundreds of species from a simple sample.
Increase accuracy and consistency
Overcome errors associated with visual identification and generate repeatable results.
Improve health and safety
Reduce health and safety concerns by minimizing the time staff spend in the field.

IMPORTANT
Purchase our eDNA kits & tests (with standard reporting) directly from our eDNA store, simply login using your details from the NatureMetrics Intelligence Platform. Please note: If you wish to purchase Great crested newt (for UK licensing) products, these are available only via our Portal.
If you prefer to speak to us directly or have any queries contact our support team here.
eDNA Kits
All our kits are single-use and can be used to take only one sample. The samples must be taken and shipped to our labs within 12 months of your order. If you require your samples to be transported via cold storage, please contact us.
We have 8 different types of eDNA kits.
- Aquatic (freshwater and marine)
- Aquatic bacterial (freshwater and marine)
- Aquatic x9 filters (freshwater and marine) - for use with the DOT-NM autosampler
- Soil (terrestrial)
- Sediment (marine)
- Barcoding from swab (fish)
- Tissue samples (freshwater, terrestrial or marine samples of tissue, body parts or whole invertebrates)
- Great crested newt (for UK licensing)
Instructions for all kits are available here.
Kit contents:
- eDNA collection, storage and safe transport. Your kit contains all you need to collect (our tissue kits do not include the nets or traps you may wish to use to catch the organisms), store and safely transport your eDNA sample.
- Preservation buffer (which helps to preserve and protect the eDNA)
- x1 pair of gloves (if two or more people are using one kit, please purchase more sets of gloves)
- Sterile bags for transporting your samples
Our aquatic kits can be purchased with either 1 or 2 filters in a kit. Each filter can collect enough eDNA for up to 3 tests (assays). Therefore, the x2 filter kit can accommodate up to 6 tests (assays).
Our aquatic and aquatic bacterial kits can be purchased for either manual operation by hand, or for use with powered peristaltic pumps (not included). The hand-operated kits contain a hand-operated syringe, to push water through the kit’s filter. The ‘for pump’ version of the kits do not include a hand-operated syringe. They contain instead tubing and adaptors for use with powered pumps (e.g. Vampire Samplers). NatureMetrics does not supply powered pumps.
Which tests (assays) are available for each kit?
